注維摩詰經 5.174

- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [5.174](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1775.5.174)

生曰：此下二句又明因果即非我也。眾法合成之時相緣而起：相緣起者不能不相起：非能相起也。若能相起者：必有相起之知。而所知在彼不在於己：反覆為相知矣。是即自在為我義焉。

> \[Dao\]sheng says: The next two sentences also clarify that cause and effect are precisely non-self. When the various dharmas combine to form it, they arise by being conditioned by one another: those that arise in mutual dependence cannot but cause one another to arise; it is not that they are able to cause one another to arise. If they were able to cause one another to arise, there would certainly be knowledge of mutually causing to arise. But what is known resides in the other and does not reside in oneself; conversely, it would be mutual knowing. This is precisely the meaning of being an independent self.
