- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [6.147](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1775.6.147)

> \[Kumāra\]jīva says: Both merits and the fruitional rewards of merit are completely bestowed upon sentient beings; this is giving to rescue suffering sentient beings. The three immeasurables are entirely clarified in terms of giving; if explained broadly, they should also be like loving-kindness and the rest. \[Seng\]zhao says: Drawing from the contemplation he asked about loving-kindness, fully explaining the four immeasurables. Pitying their long-enduring suffering, he does not calculate the merits accumulated by his own person, but vows to give them to all. Putting others before oneself is the practice of great compassion. \[Dao\]sheng says: If one wishes to eradicate suffering, one must abandon one's own pleasure to rescue them. This again is genuine compassion.
