- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [6.50](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1775.6.50)

> \[Kumāra\]jīva says: When a bodhisattva of binding karma has nearly completed the pāramitā of giving but has not yet reached its culmination, the inconceivable bodhisattva forcefully demands these things from him to cause his mind of non-sparing to be completely perfected and firm. He also causes sentient beings to know his firmness, and causes him to know his own firmness. \[Seng\]zhao says: Generally, testing arises from what is not yet certain. Inconceivable mahāsattvas are already equipped with supernatural powers and anticipate people's faculties; what need is there to test? Yet to make their resolve firm, they demand what they do not need. Demanding what is not needed resembles the traces of Māra's testing, so it is spoken of as a test. How could it be that they know only after testing?
