> \[Kumāra\]jīva says: There are three kinds of non-paths: first, the retribution of evil destinies; second, the actions that lead to evil destinies; third, worldly wholesome karma and the retribution of wholesome karma. In general, dwelling in what is not one's original reality is in every case called a non-path. Dwelling in the non-paths without losing one's original nature, one can thereby use non-paths to magnify the path, and thus penetration is achieved. For instance, an excellent physician turns whatever he touches into medicine; therefore his medical art is practiced, and whatever disease he encounters is cured.
