- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [8.194](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1775.8.194)

> \[Kumāra\]jīva says: He conceals his traces and hides his brightness, making himself equal to poor beggars. When he equals poor beggars, he comes into contact with them. When he is in contact, he is easy to approach, and thus he is trusted and delighted in by the poor. \[Seng\]zhao says: The buddhas are equal, yet their manifest traces differ. Because sentient beings are base and inferior, and their aspirations are narrow and small, the Buddha conceals his sovereign power, assimilates to their poverty and wretchedness, and delivers them by according with what they take pleasure in. Responding to resonance without fixed method, he does not gather only the pure and exclude the defiled; this is unprecedented.
