When the householders heard that giving and morality result in birth in the heavens and enjoying blessings, they gave rise to the notion of a sentient being. Having given rise to the notion of a sentient being, they then falsely produced various characteristics with respect to all dharmas. Therefore, establishing this passage to clarify that there are no sentient beings, and subsequently shattering all characteristics, can turn back what bewildered them and correspond to their original consciousness." \[Seng\]zhao says: "The sūtra does not record what he expounded.
