> Next, the five phrases below display the benefits to encourage practice. First there are two phrases, based on the first phrase above, "without abandoning the eight heterodoxies, entering the eight liberations", to clarify those benefits. "Those who eat like this" repeats the preceding to introduce what follows. Below, it discusses the benefits. "Neither having afflictions nor being separated from afflictions" explains the benefit with respect to wisdom. "Neither entering the concentrated mind nor emerging from the concentrated mind" reveals the benefit with respect to concentration. Because of the previous meaning of not abandoning the eight heterodoxies, one is not separated from afflictions and does not enter the concentrated mind. Because there is wrong view within the eight heterodoxies, one is not separated from afflictions; because there is wrong concentration, one does not enter the concentrated mind. Because of the previous meaning of entering the eight liberations, one does not have afflictions and does not emerge from the concentrated mind. Because there is right view within the eight liberations, one does not have afflictions; because there is right concentration, one does not emerge from the concentrated mind. Next there is one phrase, based on the second \[phrase\] above on entering the correct through heterodox characteristics, to clarify the benefit of realization. "Not abiding in the worldly" is "entering the correct Dharma" in the previous text. "Not abiding in nirvāṇa" is "by means of heterodox characteristics" in the previous text. Below there are two phrases, based on the third \[phrase\] above on giving food to all to make offerings to all Buddhas and so forth, to clarify the benefits of cultivation. "Whoever gives" repeats the preceding giving of one meal to all to make offerings to Buddhas and the noble ones. Below, it discusses the benefits. Saying "there is neither great merit nor small merit" explains the benefit with respect to the cause. Because of equal giving, there is neither the small merit of partial giving to ordinary people, nor the great merit of partial giving to the worthy and noble ones. Saying "it works neither benefit nor harm" explains the benefit with respect to the fruit. Because of equal giving, there is neither the benefit of partial giving to those who observe precepts, nor the harm of giving to those who break precepts. The above displays the benefits. Below, he praises and reveals its superiority to lead people to practice and learn it. Within this there are two phrases; first, saying "this is truly entering the Buddha path without relying on the śrāvakas". Among the first three phrases, this concludes by praising the first two, not abandoning the eight heterodoxies to enter the eight liberations, and entering the correct through the heterodox. Practice without one-sided attachment accords upward with the Buddha's virtue; this is called "truly entering the path". Not being like the śrāvakas who abandon the heterodox to grasp the correct, for this reason one does not rely \[on them\]. "In order not to eat the alms of others in vain" concludes by praising the third: giving with one meal to all to offer to Buddhas and the noble ones. Producing vast merit, one therefore does not eat the alms of others in vain.
