Answer: Vimalakīrti received the Buddha's spiritual power to assist the Buddha in propagating the transformation; because his transformative guiding had merit, the sūtra took its title from him. For example, when a king decrees that a minister administer governance, if the governance has merit, the minister receives the reward; but the master of the authoritative decree belongs to the king, whereas the title denoting the merit is received by the minister. One cannot say that because the minister received the reward, the minister is the primary, and because the lord issued the decree, he is conversely secondary.
