On a provisional view, it shares the same intent as the three capacities in the Lotus Sūtra, differing only in that Kātyāyana is after Pūrṇa. Yet the Tathāgata, as the Dharma King, guides the triple world; when initially opening the Tripiṭaka, he must have assistants to support the king. These ten voice-hearers each had their strengths, and each presided over one method to help the Buddha open and transform.
