> From "Therefore down to untying bonds," second, explains eliminating faults and revealing gains. The text has two: 1. eliminating faults; 2. revealing gains. 1. Eliminating faults: "the bodhisattva cuts off and eliminates adventitious defilements"—craving and views are themselves ignorance; existing when not existent, they are called adventitious defilements, capable of covering the mind of intrinsic nature. If one uses a compassionate mind wishing to pull out sentient beings' suffering on the two extremes, one will have a mind of weariness toward birth and death. How so? If the substance of contemplation has craving and views, the functioning of illuminating the two truths is not clear, and in transforming others externally with loving-kindness and compassion, one will experience weariness and laxity, just as when the body has an illness, one does not wish to walk and travel. This is eliminating faults. "If one can be free from this, there is no weariness": next, reveals gains. If one can be free from these craving and views, internal contemplation penetrates and double illumination is unhindered; transforming beings with unconditioned great compassion is without fatigue, just as when the body has no illness, all undertakings are completed. "Wherever they are born, they are not covered by craving and views": if one cuts off the craving and views of ignorance, one has no afflictions beyond the realms; with vows of loving-kindness and compassion, one takes birth to transform beings wherever ill sentient beings have conditions. Being oneself free from the bonds of both fragmented \[birth and death\] and transformation \[birth and death\], one can untie the bonds of those sentient beings; hence it says, "unbound where they are born, they can explain the Dharma to untie bonds for sentient beings." This is revealing gains.
