問：若別接通明五住義云何？答：若言四住是界內見思，無明得是界外，由界外流入界內。今反出，先斷身見、次除欲貪等、後斷無明，歸無住本，此是別接通意。

> Question: How is the meaning of the five entrenchments explained when the Separate \[Teaching\] connects with the Common \[Teaching\]? Answer: If one says that the four entrenchments are the view and thought \[defilements\] within the realm, ignorance can be beyond the realm, flowing from beyond the realm into within the realm. Now reversing this to emerge: first severing the view of individuality, next eliminating desire and greed and so forth, and afterwards severing ignorance to return to the basis of the non-abiding—this is the purport of the Separate connecting with the Common.
