> Question: Does non-abiding and having an abiding have an opening and combining? Answer: If combined, ignorance is simply the dharma-nature: the dharma-nature is non-abiding and ignorance is non-abiding; hence it is called non-abiding. If one opens the dharma-nature to bring forth ignorance, ignorance relies upon the dharma-nature, so one can also say it has an abiding. Having an abiding means abiding in the dharma-nature; abiding in the dharma-nature is not an affliction, so it is precisely non-abiding. Yet explaining the cultivation of the measureless four noble truths with respect to ignorance to discuss severance and suppression—this is the Separate Teaching clarifying the meaning of the five entrenchments with respect to what is beyond the realm.
