> Question: How can the afflictions of ignorance be the nature of wisdom? Answer: The text says: "Without entering the great ocean of afflictions, one cannot obtain the jewel of unsurpassable wisdom." The Daśabhūmika masters say: the seventh consciousness is the wisdom-consciousness. The Mahāyānasaṃgraha says the seventh consciousness is merely the consciousness of grasping and views. These various disputes all arise from failing to fathom the meaning of the revelatory cause seed-nature. When the sixth consciousness is not fathomed, disputes arise in the same way.
