> Second, under "this chapter," picking up the preceding chapters to reveal the intent, in three parts: First, completing the preceding chapter, "Bodhisattvas," in terms of attaining entry into this gate. "The stage of the tolerance of the non-arising \[of dharmas\]": because reproach caused them to alter their contemplation, they thereby entered non-arising. "Nor does it abide merely within": neither does it cling, and it can penetrate the Middle Way. Second, completing the preceding chapter, "Inquiring After the Illness." Jingxi says: "Taking the discussion further" means further distinguishing the function of the fruit; hence it is called taking the discussion further. Third, completing the two preceding chapters, "Contemplating Living Beings" and "The Buddha Path." "Analagous to heaven and earth leading to non-production": the Book of Changes states, "Heaven and earth intercommune, and all things have free passage." Third, showing the mutual interchangeability of name and meaning, in two parts: First, clarifying that the name "gate" is common to both exiting and entering, in two: first, setting up the premise; second, under "Shared Teaching," explaining it. Second, under "Furthermore," revealing that the meaning of the Dharma is common to exiting and entering, in two: first, setting up that duality and non-duality are the dharmas. The sūtra chapter merely says "entering non-duality," but now, because the meaning is interchangeable, one should also say "entering duality." Here it also should have stated as a premise that not only is duality called exiting, but non-duality is also called exiting; the text is merely concise, for because the dharma-gates are limitless, their meanings are all interchangeable. Second, under "Just as the Dharma," explaining it, in two: first, the main explanation, in two: first, citing the interior of the Elder's house to reveal that duality is called entering. "Constructing the residence": this refers to the nirvāṇa with remainder within the land with remainder; raising the house of compassion, relying on the residence of essential emptiness. Gold and silver illustrate the thirty-seven requisites of awakening of the Great Vehicle. The granary is the gate of concentration, namely the one hundred and eight samādhis. The storehouse is the gate of wisdom, namely the eighteen kinds of emptiness. "Non-duality yet duality is called exiting": it should say "is called entering." Its saying "exiting" now is a textual error, which corresponds to the initial proposition that duality is also called entering. However, although this inconceivable conventional \[truth\] is called exiting relative to the inconceivable ultimate \[truth\], relative to the conceivable ultimate and conventional \[truths\] within the threefold realm, they are all called entering, because they enter within the house. "Spontaneously at..." and below directly shows this intent.
