> Fourth, explaining the saṃgha, in two parts: first, generally explaining the meaning of the assembly; second, specifically citing the four types of monks, in two parts: first, listing the names and explaining the meanings. "The aspects of allowance and prohibition, open and blocked, in the three trainings": allowance and prohibition are explained in terms of the monastic precepts, and their aspects are easily known. Open and blocked are explained in terms of concentration and wisdom, as in the passage on discerning the open and blocked in the Cessation and Contemplation. Suffering and origination, the twelve links of dependent origination giving rise to the six coverings, are called "blocked"; the path and cessation, the twelve links of dependent origination extinguishing \[the coverings\] through the six perfections, are called "open". Here one should say: distraction is the obstruction of concentration, while stillness is the openness of concentration; dullness is the obstruction of wisdom, while brightness is the openness of wisdom. "Like a mute sheep": the treatise states, "Just like a white sheep, which even when being slaughtered by a person cannot utter a sound." "Mistakenly falling into the number of the saṃgha": this means mistakenly being among the saṃgha. The four requisites are lodging, robes, food and drink, and medicine.
