> Second, contemplation explanation. As for "escaping from the four teachings": internally relying on the contemplation of emptiness, externally one expounds the Tripiṭaka and shared teachings; internally relying on the contemplation of the provisional, externally one expounds the distinct teaching; internally relying on the contemplation of the middle, externally one expounds the perfect teaching. Moreover, the one mind originally possesses the ten realms, and based on the four noble dharmadhātus one expounds the teachings of the four teachings. Once internal contemplation is luminous, external exposition is fearless. That contemplation of mind is the root of all teachings—does it not lie here? As for "like a lion's cub": the Buddha is like the lion king; the practitioner is like the lion's cub. The complete contemplation of the threefold contemplation is like reaching three full years; being able to expound the four teachings is like immediately being able to roar. However, this contemplation explanation does not necessarily require the initial abode; one in the five ranks can already expound from contemplative practice. Although four teachings are mentioned, the intent is certainly in the perfect; only relying on the perfect does one speak of all possessing the nature, which is called the lion's roar.
