> Second, from "Directly manifests" downward, indicating that those who were transformed come to be reborn. This explains the sūtra's phrase "Unflattering sentient beings come to be reborn in his land." The text has four parts: first, rebirth in the shared-dwelling \[land\]. Regarding "Initially responding to conditions, etc.": clarifying the bestowal of the five periods of transformation. Second, rebirth in the remainder \[land\]. Third, rebirth in the true reward \[land\]. Regarding "Without the two extremes, etc.," Jingxi says: "Delusions in the stages are called flattery; when delusions are severed, it is called straight." Fourth, rebirth in the quiescent light \[land\]. This concerns the middle and lower quiescent light, namely the ten stages and virtual enlightenment.
