> Question: Why is it said to be neither defiled nor pure? Answer: Because there are phenomena and principle. In terms of principle, neither defilement nor purity applies; in terms of phenomena, only quiescent light is eternally pure. Furthermore, because quiescent light is different from the other lands, it is not defiled; because it is identical to the other lands, it is not pure. Because the other lands are identical to quiescent light, they are not defiled; because they are different from quiescent light, they are not pure.
