> Third, showing the method of proper eating has two \[parts\]: first, dividing the sections; second, commenting on them accordingly, which has two \[parts\]: first, showing proper eating, which has two \[parts\]: first, explaining the substance of food, which has two \[parts\]: first, general explanation. As for 'how could it be food mixed with desire,' etc.: Jingxi says, 'Properly illuminating that the time of eating must accord with the Buddha's wisdom, therefore whatever is not the Buddha's wisdom is called mixed desire. Hence we know that Kāśyapa's eating with a distracted mind, as well as his past abandonment of the heterodox to enter the orthodox, are all called mixed desire. Lacking the Buddha's wisdom, his contemplation must have entered and exited, causing the food to become mixed; therefore he should not eat it. If one explained "mixed with desire" through the desires of the desire realm, that would equate Kāśyapa with ordinary beings. "Neither heterodox nor orthodox" is because it negates both ordinary and small \[vehicle\] heterodoxy and orthodoxy.'
