> Second, from "Furthermore" onward, matching master and disciple, which has two parts: first, explaining how master and disciple benefit others, which itself has two parts: first, matching and citing proof. "Mutually supporting \[…\] so it is": if master and disciple practice good or evil together, subsequent students will follow them. This parallels the previous king and ministers; thus it says, "so it is also." Next, a text is cited to prove that king and mental factors here contain the meaning of master and disciple. Second, from "The Buddha acts as" onward, directly showing the benefiting of others. "Jointly transforming sentient beings' king and mental factors": by causing sentient beings to receive the teachings and practice, both the mental king and mental factors become good. From "If sentient beings" onward, Jingxi says: "One might ask: the two paths of seeing and cultivation both require primary and auxiliary \[practices\]; why is primary practice used in the path of seeing, while 'practice upon practice' is used in the path of cultivation? Answer: There are two meanings here. First, in terms of Dharma: primary and auxiliary are distinguished by looking at the Dharma and contemplating principle or contemplating phenomena. Second, following persons: having entered the first fruit and attained the primary station, thereafter one further cultivates phenomenal contemplation to assist in revealing the primary principle, completing the latter three fruits. Furthermore, in the path of cultivation, it means cultivating upon practice; hence it is called 'practice upon practice.'"
