> Second, explaining the function of food. Jingxi says: As for 'giving one meal to all,' etc., although the meaning applies to the cause, this is stated in terms of persons of the fruit who are able to use food; to reproach Kāśyapa for lacking this capacity, he cites Gandhakūṭa as an authentic precedent. If one discusses its intention, although it lies in the fruit's function, the fruit must arise from the cause; by examining this we know that Kāśyapa's initial practice was also one-sided. Both cause and fruit being flawed, he therefore incurred reproach. As for 'relying on the inconceivable up to roaming both two truths': because of attaining the middle, he is able to illuminate both. 'Mundane and supramundane': the mundane refers to the food of the impure land and human realm used for giving. The supramundane refers to the various sense objects beyond the realm, as in the example of Gandhakūṭa, which is the middle way.
