> Fourth, Māra further offers women. As for the sūtra saying "to provide for sweeping and sprinkling": the former is pronounced \*xī\*, the latter \*suǒ\*. The \*Tongsuwen\* states: "Using water to settle dust is called sprinkling." The \*Quli\* says: "Presenting women to the Son of Heaven is called providing. For the common people to the ruler of a state, it is called providing wine and broth; to a grandee, it is called providing for sweeping and sprinkling." Zheng Xuan says: "Wine, broth, sweeping, and sprinkling are the duties of women." Master \[Daosheng\] says: "Because he expounds the Dharma, he could deceitfully pretend to follow good, but in reality he wished to bewilder him with women."
