> Second, critical examination, in two: first, examining real benefit. Regarding 'Question: reproaching the bodhisattvas' and so forth, Jingxi says: The question asks whether the words of reproach by the Great Being all intend the perfect, yet could the bodhisattvas all receive the perfect benefit? The answer cites the \*Analects\*. 'The three hundred poems': that is the current \*Mao Poetry\*, which has three hundred and five pieces; here it gives the full round number. 'One phrase' refers to 'having no depraved thoughts.' 'Bi' (covers) is like 'corresponds to.' Although the poems are as numerous as three hundred and as broad as the six principles, solely the one phrase 'having no depraved thoughts' is used to correspond to the principle of the three hundred pieces. Just so, although the four capacities are broad, raising the single universal benefit of the perfect corresponds to them. Within the Vaipulya, even if they have not yet entered the perfect, they secretly receive the perfect benefit, and through the reproving they are enabled to reach the \*Lotus Sūtra\*. Regarding 'receiving provisional and real teachings' and so forth: the real is the Perfect Teaching. Those who do not grasp the intent generate views based on words, and are therefore reproached; the illness is reproached, not the dharma.
