> Second, excluding errors, which has two parts: first, dividing the sections and signaling indications; second, from "The first text" downward, explaining the meaning following the text, which has three parts: first, in terms of great compassion with craving and views. Jingxi says: since this view and craving are excluded within the contemplation, it is certain that it is in the initial mind cultivating the contemplation of the middle way; hence it previously said that from the beginning, together with that bodhisattva, they are neither existent nor non-existent. It also says that craving born in accord with the path obstructs entry into the bodhisattva stages; "the bodhisattva stages" refers to the initial abode, so we know that craving and views still belong to fundamental ignorance. As for "kindness and compassion," this strictly refers to the kindness and compassion of the two extremes. Making this statement is to reproach the stages of the two extremes to make them enter the middle; therefore we know that this is precisely the views and craving of identical essence, which are called "in accord with the path." The text has two parts: first, hanging out to indicate the intended meaning, which has two parts: first, excluding errors and showing the essence. In the text, first errors are excluded, and next, from "Now contemplating" downward, the essence is shown. Second, from "This..." downward, showing defilements in terms of the essence. "If according to the upright path": the upright path is precisely the middle truth.
