- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [5.41](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1782.5.41)

> Commentary: This explains it. 'Views' refers to the five views. 'Afflictions' refers to greed, anger, delusion, the eight entanglements, the three bondages, and so forth, all as spoken of previously. These above are active occurrences. 'Anuśayas' refers to the seeds. Because they abide in these, when cultivating roots of goodness they do not dedicate them toward bodhi, but rather engender clinging; possessing afflictions, they lack upāya. Furthermore, another commentary states: this refers to lacking both, because they lack both wisdom and upāya. Kumārajīva's older translation lacks 'dedication'; the former explanation is correct.
