> What are the three kinds of Mahāyāna? Carrying and bearing is called a vehicle. The nature of principle is empty and unimpeded, naturally bearing all dharmas; hence it is called the vehicle of principle. As for the vehicle of accord: wisdom accords with the object just as a lid accords with a box; hence it is called the vehicle of accord. As for the vehicle of attainment: attaining the fruition and attaining the aptitudes. Because it attains the fruition, one liberates oneself; because it attains the aptitudes, one liberates others; hence it is called the vehicle of attainment. One should know that the three vehicles are each permanence, bliss, self, and purity, which are neither dual nor distinct from the three virtues. Since the Suvarṇaprabhāsa serves as a metaphor for the three virtues, the Suvarṇaprabhāsa also serves as a metaphor for the three kinds of Mahāyāna.
