> Question: If one dharma is immediately all dharmas, then by expounding only one dharma, what need is there for the remaining dharmas? Answer: The Buddha speaks to delight all people, suit all people, respond to all people, and awaken all people; if he expounds them extensively, there is great benefit. Even a single exposition causes diverse understandings to arise; by reading extensively through the various treatises, one comes to know the intent of the wise. Therefore, he expounds in diverse ways to bring about all understanding. Harsh words and soft speech alike return to the primary truth, and all serve to show people the dharma of non-contention; such is this meaning.
