> First, ritual performance. As for offenses against the unmanifest: When one formerly received the Buddha's precepts, the unmanifest essence arose through ritual performance; if one violates them, one incurs the offense of disobedience. Now through ritual performance, one counteracts and destroys this offense. As for inherent offenses, these are the ten non-virtuous actions. Regardless of whether one has received \[precepts\] or not, violating them is inherently an offense. From 'as when violating' onward: The treatise states: 'If one repents the two offenses of cutting large grass and killing animals together, both offenses of disobeying regulations are eradicated, yet compensating with life for killing animals still remains.'
