> Second, from 'Ruciraketu' downward, showing the characteristics of severing doubt has three parts: first, the doubt that is severed; second, from 'The four Buddhas' downward, the method capable of severing it. The four metaphors were originally intended to make known the length of the response \[lifespan\], but the Great Master specifically interpreted them through the four truths. If the response lifespan were not entirely the Dharmakāya and the three bodies a single substance, how could one wondrously unite the two explanations in the commentary? Therefore, it is first indicated: 'Its words are clever and wondrous; its meaning is deep and far-reaching.' If they definitely symbolized only one body, how could the words be clever? If the three were juxtaposed and distinct, how could the meaning be deep?
