> First, clarifying the place. The twenty-eight heavens are all destinies of ascent, and this stands at their head. The heavens are divided among the three realms, and within the lower realm this is again the first. Those who dwell midway up Sumeru are where they reside. Among the six heavens of the desire realm, two heavens rely on the mountain: Trāyastriṃśa dwells at the summit, and the Four Kings are midway up. In Sanskrit it is Sumeru, translated here as Wonderful and High; it rises eighty-four thousand yojanas out of the water and is composed of the four jewels.
