> First, an explanation covering both the internal and external. Liver diseases flaring up in spring and so forth: the liver organ belongs to wood; when wood flourishes in spring, it can be treated; the spleen belongs to earth, and wood overcomes earth, so the spleen is difficult to treat. The heart organ belongs to fire; when fire flourishes in summer, it can be treated; the lungs belong to metal, and fire overcomes metal, so the lungs are difficult to treat. The lungs belong to metal; when metal flourishes in autumn, they can be treated; metal overcomes wood, so the liver is difficult to treat. The kidneys belong to water; when water flourishes in winter, they can be treated; water overcomes fire, so the heart is difficult to treat.
