> First, the question. The lesser person is the state; the sick are the tiny worms and the ten thousand dried fish. The fish relate to the vow of future Dharma-food, and like them received the prediction of Buddhahood. Those whose sicknesses were cured are definitely capacities for liberation in future lives; therefore, all received the benefit of the two lives. Regarding "deeply moved and reaching the ultimate": guiding difficult practices with non-dual understanding, this response is most deep. Abandoning body, life, and wealth equal to the future limit, this tallying is purely ultimate; the assembly hearing and receiving benefit was precisely at this time, which is why the tree deity seized the opportunity to raise the question.
