> Commentary: The factor of the accomplishment of the assembly, which is the capacity receptive to the teaching, is distinguished through five gates: first, the intention of its inclusion; second, the provisional and the real; third, quantity; fourth, presence and absence; fifth, explaining the text. As for the intention of its inclusion, there are five points, as in the original Commentary on the Lotus Sūtra. Furthermore, according to the Mahāratnakūṭasūtra-śāstra, the assembly of śrāvakas is listed for three reasons: first, to remove doubts they have concerning the Mahāyāna; second, for those who are indeterminate, to assist in bringing about correct faith; third, to remove the thought of 'what was to be done has been done', enabling them to eliminate cognitive obscurations and attain superior fruition. The assembly of bodhisattvas is listed for five reasons: first, to remove doubts; second, to benefit all sentient beings in this world-system; third, to make them know that there are immeasurable buddhas in other directions, causing them to develop yearning and generate a mind of approaching them; fourth, because they are those originally transformed by Śākyamuni; fifth, to manifest that they have come from afar from other directions for the sake of the Dharma. If these bodhisattvas, having already attained the stage of buddhahood, still come for the sake of the Dharma, how much more so other beings?
