> Next is the Tathāgata's reply. It is divided into three: first, instructing them to cultivate practice; second, teaching the ritual decorum; third, properly teaching entreaty. In instructing them to cultivate practice, he first presents the fruit sought, and then has them undertake practice. Cultivating the path of the two vehicles causes the generation of omniscient knowledge, for if there were dharmas unknown, one's knowledge would not be unsurpassed. Furthermore, it is for the sake of bringing those of the two vehicles to maturity. One should also speak of learning the dharmas of humans and devas, which are cultivated as upāya for the three vehicles; hence they are not stated separately.
