### [4.52](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1788.4.52)

> The metaphor of the lion: A lion has three virtues: first, having great power and majesty; second, walking alone without fear; third, being free from fright and terror; these correspond to the metaphor. Just as a lion walks alone without fear, one gives rise to the mind to practice the three kinds of patience. In the \*Sūtrālaṅkāra\*, it is compared to the great ocean, because its mind is unshaken by all adversities that come. The \*Sūtra of the Buddha's Bequeathed Teaching\* says: "One who can practice patience can truly be called a powerful, great person." Hence one attains fearlessness. From "this is called" downward is the conclusion, with the application to the dharma being omitted.
