> Sūtra: "'"Because of loving and respecting evil people / And punishing good people, / The constellations, winds, and rains / Do not move in accordance with their seasons. / Three kinds of faults arise: / The correct Dharma shall disappear, / Sentient beings will lack radiance and luster, / And the earth's fertility will sink down. / Because of respecting evil and disdaining good, / There are again three kinds of faults: / Unseasonable frost and hail fall, / Famine and pestilential suffering spread, / And the flavor and nourishment / Of grains, crops, and various fruits are all impaired. / Within that realm, / Sentient beings have many illnesses. / The forests and trees in the realm, / Which previously produced sweet and delicious fruit, / Through this are all impaired, / Becoming bitter, astringent, and devoid of flavor. / The previously wondrous gardens and groves, / Delightful places of recreation, / Suddenly all wither away, / Causing those who see them to feel grief and sorrow. / The delicious flavors of rice, wheat, and various fruits / Gradually perish and vanish; / When eating them, the mind finds no joy— / How could they nourish the elements? / The radiance and luster of sentient beings decline, / Their strength and vigor completely waste away; / Though they eat much food, / It cannot make them full and satisfied. / Within that realm, / All classes of sentient beings / Have little strength and lack valiant vigor, / Incapable of performing what must be done. / The people of the country have many illnesses, / Diverse sufferings oppress their bodies, / Demons and specters spread everywhere, / And rākṣasas are born in every place."'"
