What is called the "Buddha's words regarding the mind" truly lies herein! The storehouse consciousness is the real, and the evolving consciousnesses are the false. Because the lump of clay is formed from subtle dust particles, their substance is one, so one cannot say they are different. If the lump of clay and subtle dust particles were definitely one, there would be no distinction between them, so one cannot say they are not different. This is a simile showing that from the real arises the false, and when the false perishes, the real is revealed. Gold being made into ornaments is also like this.
