> First, regarding expressive names and sentences: from the perspective of the Hīnayāna, in the \*Vibhāṣā-śāstra\*, the sequential arrangement of names, sentences, phonemes, and so forth is also taken as the expressive teaching-essence. From the perspective of the Mahāyāna, in sūtras such as the \*Vimalakīrti\*, words and letters are also taken as the expressive manifestation; in this sūtra below, in accordance with characteristics, it is likewise so. The \*Vijñaptimātratāsiddhi\* states: "Names express intrinsic nature, sentences express differences. Letters are syllables, serving as the basis for both." One should understand by taking this as the standard of explanation.
