- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [10.35](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1791.10.35)

> However, those who cultivate the practice of contemplation must realize that that which is able to sever has no self-nature, and that which is severed is fundamentally empty; a severing without severing is genuine severing. If one grasps them as definitely existent, one falls into eternalism, because they could not be severed; if one grasps them as definitely non-existent, one falls into annihilationism, forfeiting holy wisdom. Therefore, the ancient virtuous ones said: 'The Buddha is fundamentally existent, yet one diligently cultivates; delusion is fundamentally non-existent, yet it must be severed.'
