> 'Awakened wisdom' refers to the wisdom of the twofold selflessness; the 'two graspings' refer to the grasping at a self and the grasping at phenomena. The wisdom of the twofold selflessness arises as the path that counteracts the grasping at a self and at phenomena that are to be eliminated, as was explained in the previous chapter on the twofold selflessness. However, to administer the marvelous medicine of the two wisdoms, one must thoroughly know the root cause of the disease of the two graspings. As the Cheng weishi lun says: the graspings at a self and at phenomena held by non-Buddhists and other vehicles (that is, the two vehicles) are each of two kinds: first, innate; second, discriminated.
