> Regarding self-characteristics and common characteristics, let us explain them in terms of the truth of suffering among the four noble truths. Under the truth of suffering, the dependent and direct retributions of the three realms, the aggregates, elements, sense fields, and all other dharmas, being individually distinct, are called self-characteristics; the truth of suffering is called the common characteristic. Namely, within the four aspects of the truth of suffering, impermanence is the common characteristic of all conditioned dharmas; suffering is the common characteristic of all contaminated dharmas; emptiness and selflessness are universally the common characteristics of all dharmas. Furthermore, the differences among the five aggregates are called self-characteristics, while jointly forming a human body is called a common characteristic. Elements, sense fields, and so forth are also like this, up to all dharmas, which each have self-characteristics and common characteristics. 'Tuṣita' is translated here as 'contentment'; the inner palace of that heaven is the dwelling of a bodhisattva bound to one last birth. Akaniṣṭha Heaven is the place where the Reward Buddha whose practice is complete realizes true awakening. The remaining text all clarifies distancing oneself from habitual faults, revealing multiple virtues, and accomplishing the meaning of the Tathāgata's Dharma-body. Because there are such benefits, he requests the Buddha to speak the above Dharma-gates.
