> From here below, the Tathāgata takes the horns of an ox and a hare to refute the delusive views that grasp at names and characteristics. This clarifies and relates the assertions of those two non-Buddhists: one non-Buddhist sees all dharmas perish according to causes and conditions, and falsely generates conceptualization thinking that a hare has no horns; another non-Buddhist sees the functions of the primary elements, before the conditions of the sense-organs, body, and dusty objects have dispersed, having differences in shape and measure, and asserts that an ox has horns. Because of not understanding, they reciprocally grasp at divergent views and generate fixed understandings.
