> The Benevolent Kings Sūtra speaks of five kinds of patience: subduing, faith, compliance, non-arising, and cessation, each having lower, middle, and upper grades. Before the stages, one only attains the three grades of the patience of subduing; the nine stages are respectively matched with the next three kinds of patience; the tenth stage, equal enlightenment, and the Buddha attain the patience of cessation, hence it is called 'the supremely excellent patience of cessation', which is the pure wisdom of the Tathāgata. This clarifies that the Buddha's patience and pure wisdom arise from paramārtha-satya, and are entirely far removed from the spheres of activity traversed by the parikalpa mind-consciousness.
