> Having spoken these words, he cast his five limbs to the ground. In this manner he made his request three times, from beginning to end. At that time, the World-Honoured One said to Samantacakṣu Bodhisattva: “Excellent, excellent! Good son, you are well able, for the sake of the bodhisattvas and sentient beings of the final age, to ask the Tathāgata about the progressive stages of practice, reflection, and abiding and maintaining, and even to ask for the provisional expounding of various expedient means. Listen closely now; I shall expound them for you.” Then Samantacakṣu Bodhisattva received the instruction with joy, and the great assembly listened in silence.
