> The seven factors of awakening: mindfulness is the support limb, because by binding mindfulness, it causes all good dharmas not to be forgotten; investigation of dharmas is the essential limb, because it awakens to self-characteristics; diligence is the limb of departure, because through this power one is able to reach what is to be reached; joy is the benefit limb, because through courageous joy of mind, the body becomes harmonized and comfortable; pliancy, samādhi, and equanimity are all unpolluted limbs, because they can eliminate coarse heaviness, transform the basis relying on samādhi, and equanimity in action eternally abandons craving and grief with equanimity. All seven are called limbs of awakening; although the seven dharmas arise together in a single thought-moment, their functions are described separately according to their modes of activity.
