- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [2.216](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1795.2.216)

夫眼能見一切，唯不能自見眼根。又如眼光照矚物時，境則萬差，見即是一，故云平等。但約於凡、聖無分別勝劣之心說平等義，亦無有能作平等之者。

> The eye can see everything, but it alone cannot see the visual faculty itself. Furthermore, it is like the light of the eye illuminating objects: while the objects are myriad and varied, the seeing itself is one; hence it is called equal. It is merely spoken in reference to the absence of discriminating between superior and inferior in the minds of ordinary persons and sages that the meaning of equality is stated, yet there is also no one who produces this equality.
