> 'Desire' refers to lustful craving, and 'life' refers to bodily life. Without affection and desire, there is no birth; without desire, the body does not exist. You should know that desire exists due to affection, and the body is born due to desire. Once having this body, one again produces affection. Because of loving the body, it again becomes the cause of desire, inducing future karmic fruits of saṃsāra once more; thus in turn it continues without end.
