> These are pleasurable retributions. The Huayan \[Sūtra\] says: 'The paths of the ten virtuous actions are the causes of rebirth among humans and gods.' Classifying them as pleasurable retributions is stated from the perspective of coarse marks. If one considers the eight sufferings among humans and the five signs of decay in the heavens, or the cutting, slashing, mutilating, harming, and expulsion of terrestrial \[demigods\], how could they escape suffering? If the asuras are distinguished out from among the gods, ghosts, and animals, they constitute the six destinies.
