> As for the forty-ninth, “What is the poison-like mind? It refers to conforming to and practicing dharmas devoid of a factor for life”: “Poison” refers to the various virulent poisons of dragons, snakes, and herbs. Just as a poisoned person faints, progressively heading toward the state of death without any factor for life, this person's mind is also like this: they neither generate a good mind nor an evil mind, up to being unable to generate any mind at all. Merely acting spontaneously, they gradually enter into \[a state of\] having no cause and no effect; hence it is called “dharmas devoid of a factor for life.” Once practitioners have recognized this themselves, they should generate great compassion and the multitude of goods, abandoning the emptiness of annihilation; that is the so-called wondrous medicine of amṛta.
