- **Language:** Classical Chinese

### [1.109](https://indike.org/pramana/in.bauddha.taisho.1799.1.109)

> Dānapati is translated here as "giver." Ānanda, in begging for food, intended to wish that whoever came last to invite the saṅgha, "I should go to that one"; hence he is called "the host of the meal." "Pure and impure" refers to kṣatriya and caṇḍāla. Kṣatriya is translated here as "lord of fields," namely the royal lineage, hence called "noble lineage." Caṇḍāla is translated here as "killer," namely executioners, brothels, and taverns. "Just then" (fang) means method/rule: modeling himself upon the Tathāgata, he practiced equal compassion, not choosing the noble nor rejecting the lowly, causing givers and onlookers to attain immeasurable merit.
